Five of us went to explore this rather remote mine.
After a long trek, crossing a stream and finding an odd arched roofed building, we found the adit… chest deep in water, with a low roof. A rope assisted us in pulling us through and keeping stable until we could stand up properly, and then a long wade through deep water and mud until we found dry land.
Colourful… and getting shallower
This was the first example of what passed for ‘dry land!’
Leading to some nice colour and quite a few snottites.
Wot a lot o’ snotties! Not including the caver of course!
The multiple tonsils of a monster… But wait– Is that a statue of Jesus on the left, with a handbag?
Must have been, ‘coz here is a wonderful church candle!
Further on, it was dark and spooky.
And then… Darker and Spookier!
After a longish fairly straight passage, it ends at the spoil heap of a filled in shaft.
There is a passage to the left, if you want to crawl through the small gap above the heap,
but we were told there was dead air in there…
And our sense of adventure sort of drained away at that point.
So, retracing our steps, we wandered and waded back through this colourful adit.
